What is Cosmetic Surgery?
Cosmetic surgery is a branch of plastic surgery concerned with altering the appearance of the body. (If you want to learn more about the difference between “plastic surgery” and “cosmetic surgery,” we discuss it here.) A wide variety of procedures are available for both the face and the body. To make it easier to find the content you’re looking for, we’ve put the facial procedures in a separate section, so the Cosmetic Surgery section of Doctor Review focuses on procedures from the neck down. Surgical options for the face can be found in the Facial Plastic Surgery section, while non-surgical options for both body and face are in the Cosmetic Dermatology section. Hair Transplant Surgery has its own section.
For your interest, we have some information on the history of plastic surgery. (You might be surprised how old it is, and you won’t believe what was used in early breast augmentations!) We also discuss a few of the future innovations currently in development. (Melting fat with no skin incisions? Yes, it may be possible!)
We also have tons of great information on the most common procedures. You can find out how it’s done, how to choose a surgeon, what recovery will be like, the risks and benefits, and more. To get you started, here’s a list of the procedures we cover in this section. Just click on the name of a procedure to be taken to its main educational page. You can also browse or search topics in our Education Wiki.
Questions about cosmetic surgery or other types of procedures can be asked in our Forum. If you have a question, don’t be shy — someone is waiting to answer with the information you need, so go ahead and ask! There are likely plenty of other people out there with the same question as you. You can also browse previous questions and answers. You might even find the answers to questions you didn’t realize you had!
What About the Money?
There’s also lots of information about the cost of cosmetic surgical procedures. If you’re like most people, you don’t have thousands of dollars in savings just sitting around waiting to be used for your procedure, so you might be wondering how you could possibly afford this. You do have many options, so if you’re concerned about the cost, make sure you check out our Plastic Surgery Financing page.
And of course, since our name is Doctor Review, we have patient reviews of doctors who perform these procedures. You want a qualified medical professional, who cares about you, listens to you, and seeks to understand your goals. Read what real patients are saying about doctors in your area, to help you choose the best surgeon for you.
